Summer Solstice at London Glassblowing

Summer Solstice was a collection of new work by nearly 30 leading glass artists.

In celebration of the longest day of the year and also Peter Laytons 86th birthday, London Glassblowings Summer exhibition was around the them of Solstice.

The show’s theme revolved around time and the cyclical nature of life. It inspired our artists to create stunning new works expressing the brilliant colours and advent of light as the northern hemisphere tilts towards the sun.

Bloom is a brand new series of works that I created for this show. I was fascinated by the summer flowers that bloom around the solstice, not only with their bold colours and hues but with their multiple layers of petals as they open. Wanting to strip back the idea to a beautifully simplistic design I have produced multiple bowl forms that nestle within one and other which creates a depth and richness within. All protecting the inner jewel like form. You have to look within to see the beauty which radiates within the bowl.
