In 2018 Nancy Sutcliffe and I won the commission to produce glass to be on permanent display within the Club House at Wimbledon Tennis, the location being the walk-way to the Royal Box. We designed 2 complimentary artworks that would showcase Wimbledon’s rich history. We were fortunate to visit centre court in 2018 and once the work was installed in 2019 we visited the royal box during some of most exciting tennis during the games.

Maker/Engraver Team win 2018 Commission for The Championships, Wimbledon.

British glass artists Katherine Huskie and Nancy Sutcliffe have been commissioned by Wimbledon as their Championships Artists for 2018. Katherine is a glass-blower and designer and Nancy specialises in engraving and gilding. They will produce two free-blown glass roundels, engraved with iconic imagery from the Club and The Championships and featuring water gilded gold and platinum leaf. Nancy and Katherine will visit Wimbledon during this year’s Championships in July to help them finalise the design.

The works will be installed in the Wimbledon Clubhouse at the end of year. They will occupy a prestigious and highly visible position. They are to be placed in vitrines which are 1.6m high and located on the main staircase, the backs of which open onto the two passages leading to the Royal BoxThis spectacular location means that the works will be seen by all the players and stars who pass through the Club.

The work was chosen by the Chairman and CEO of the Club after presentations made in person by Nancy and Katherine along with the two other finalists: Philip Baldwin & Monica Guggisberg and Amanda Notarianni. The three finalists had been previously selected from the 26 artists who had submitted entries. Throughout the process Liveryman Mark Holford and Honorary Liveryman Katharine Coleman MBE have supported the Club in selecting the winners and will continue to do so until the works are installed.
